If you are looking for a holiday where you can make a difference either at home or abroad then take a look at WWOOF – World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms.

WWOOF – World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms

WWOOF is a worldwide network of organisations which link volunteers with organic farmers and smallholders, and help people share more sustainable ways of living. In exchange for your volunteer help, WWOOF hosts offer food, accommodation and opportunities to learn about organic lifestyles.

How it works

WWOOF organisations publish lists of organic farms, smallholdings and gardeners that welcome volunteer help at certain times. The diversity of hosts available offers a large variety of tasks and experiences.

“WWOOFers”,  as volunteer helpers are known (what a great name!) choose the hosts that most interest them and make direct contact to arrange a stay. You need to be interested in learning about organic growing, country living or ecologically sound lifestyles and agree to help your hosts  with daily tasks for an agreed number of hours.

Costs

There are many WWOOF organisations around the world, but there is no single WWOOF membership that covers all countries. So you will need to pay the membership fee for the country you want to volunteer in. The fee for the UK membership is £20 (single) and £30 (joint) and is valid for one year.
