Kelita Bignall, founder of Yours Truly Organics, asked me if I’d like to try her new range of skincare products designed specifically for skin prone to acne, spots and blemishes a few months ago. I had a look at her website and very impressed to see that the products are certified by Ecocert and cruelty-free (Read: Tips to help you become a cruelty-free and eco-friendly shopper) as they’re approved by the BUAV and the Vegetarian Society. The brand has had an update and has a fantastic new look with clean and simple white packaging decorated with beautiful drawings of key ingredients such as lavender and a great new website.

I found half a pump of this orange cleanser was plenty to properly cleanse my face. It left my skin feeling clean but not dry which can be a problem with some ranges for problem skin. It’s enriched with Vitamin C and Sandalwood Oil and the orange scent is so refreshing. I’m not a morning person so it’s been a great wake-up product and also lovely to use during this recent hot weather when I’ve been glowing more than I’d like! It also worked well to remove my make-up saving me time and money on separate make-up remover.

Now, I have to confess that I hardly ever use toner. I like to think that it’s because I’m helping save the planet by not using cotton wool but it’s it’s probably because I’m lazy. This toner is in a spray bottle and even I’ve managed to give my face and neck a quick spritz after cleansing. Although you can sweep it over your skin with a cotton wool pad, if you prefer. This toner is designed to return your skin to its optimal pH level. I was impressed with how nourished my skin felt once it had absorbed the toner that I think I could have got away without applying moisturiser. I loved the smell of this too and it left me feeling invigorated.

Fix Me! Repairing Serum
This serum has been created to smooth, repair and tighten your skin and contains oat kernel. It also helps reduce inflammation caused by blemishes with sesame seed extract and saw palmetto. I have combination skin and am prone to pre-menstrual breakouts on my chin and jaw and whilst using this I found that my monthly spots did seem to be less angry and they cleared up more quickly than usual. You just need to apply a pea-sized amount twice daily and the pump makes this easy to dispense the right amount.

Face Base Face Balm
Although this is called a balm, it’s more of a thick cream. The instructions say to apply a thin layer in an upward motion over your face and neck. To begin with I was applying too much and it felt too heavy for me. Once I’d rectified this though I found it to be a lovely, nourishing moisturiser which left my skin soft and smooth. Even the next morning, my skin still felt great and not greasy. Yours Truly Organics say, “Formulated with Pea Extract to improve elasticity and regulate your skin’s sebum production and Daisy Flower extract that will brighten your skin’s complexion this face balm will help you look and feel your best.”

Be a Shade Greener rating (out of 5):
I’ve really enjoyed using this range of products and I would say it’s not just for those with acne. Although the price for the set is £99, you do get large size products and because a little goes a long way they will last you ages. Before you invest that sort of money though, it’s worth trying out a sample kit for a very reasonable £5. As I mentioned before I don’t have a big problem with spots but if you do, I would recommend giving them a go. I think they will be much more gentle on your skin than some of the more well-known acne brands available on your high street. Plus you’re supporting a small business with ethics!
If you decide to try it, please let me know what you think.
