WhaleFest 2011 – calling all people with a passion for whales and dolphins

The Hove Centre, Brighton, UK – Sat 5th – Sun 6th November 2011

As whales and dolphins are a big passion of mine, I’m excited to see that WhaleFest is taking place in a few months time on the south coast of England.  Planet Whale, who are organising this event say it’s for anyone who’s interested in cetaceans:

WhaleFest offers something for everyone, whether you are hooked on whale watching, or simply have a passing interest in natural history or the sea. No matter what your level of interest or knowledge, you’ll find that there is so much for you to dip your toes into, as you find yourself lifted, like a Flying Fish, through the many activities, quizzes, inspirational speakers, taster courses, and stands at this fabulous venue.

Guests already lined up for this event, the first and largest of its kind in the UK, include:

  • Mark Carwardine – zoologist, conservationist, award-winning writer, a TV and radio presenter, wildlife photographer, who co-presented the BBC2 television series Last Chance to See with Stephen Fry
  • Philip Hoare – BBC broadcaster and author of the critically acclaimed Leviathan or, The Whale
  • Marc Riley – the fantastic BBC 6Music DJ and presenter of BBC Radio 4’s ‘In Search Of The Holy Whale’
  • Dr Jason Cressey – author of Deep Voices: The Wisdom of Whales and Dolphin Tales which examines ancient mythology and folklore about dolphins and whales

Apparently, the organisers are also discussing the possible involvement of Chris Packham, conservationist, television presenter (including Springwatch and Autumnwatch), author and photographer.

Planet Whale say your support enables them to provide whale and dolphin conservation organisations and sustainable whale-watching companies with a free platform to promote their work to the widest possible audience. So if you want to spend a weekend with like-minded people, fascinating speakers and help whale and dolphin conservation at the same time, book your ticket now! By booking your ticket via the MARINElife website you will help one of my favourite charities as they will receive a percentage of your entry fee.
